Retailer West Pack has cleverly decided to cash in on the backlash Cotton On is receiving over their R199 enamel mugs by advertising the very same mugs for only R9.90 each.

The cost of the Cotton On mugs were questioned by social media users who have slammed the company for raising the price on the famous mugs which generally sell for cheap in most parts of South Africa.

Responding to media personality Anele Mdoda’s tweets about Cotton On’s outrageous price tag, West Pack shared a cool ad about their enamel mugs.

Hundreds of social media users have expressed outrage after Cotton On debuted their enamel cups for a whopping R199 each.

“We’re being mugged in broad daylight. Quite frankly, this is not my cup of tea,” one users wrote while another said:

“Price control must take effect…. This is fraud!”

947 Breakfast Club host Anele Mdoda spotted the R199 mugs and shared a tweet about it.

West Pack quickly spotted this opportunity to market their mugs and responded to Anele’s tweet with a short ad.

“Hey! @AneleAndTheClub & @Anele come check what #WestPackLifestyle has 😏Enamel Kitchenware starting from R9.90,” they captioned the clip. Take a look below:

Mzansi is loving the marketing.

The post was soon flooded with comments from social media users who mocked Cotton On and their expensive enamel cups.

Others jokingly remarked that they want the mugs in pink – which Cotton On also offers consumers.

“Saving us a whole R190,” commented one person while another said: “We want it in pink tho.”
