Chantel Dartnall, South Africa’s multi-award winning chef extraordinaire, has been included again as one of the Best Chef Top 100 candidates. The 2020 final will be held in September.

Dartnall previously won Best Lady Chef in the World at the international 2017 Best Chef Awards in Warsaw, Poland.

On Wednesday an elated Dartnall – who is the only nominee from South Africa – announced on Facebook that she had “something very exciting to share” and confirmed “I am incredibly proud to have been selected amongst this year’s 200 nominees from across the globe”.

The final will be held at a three-day culinary event in Rotterdam in the Netherlands – “a beautiful destination, which I am so looking forward to enjoying!” – from 21-23 September.

According to The Best Chefs Award, “100 new chefs are selected by The Best Chef’s independent partners. France, Spain, USA, Brazil, the Netherlands and the UK represent the most new candidates for the 2020 list.”

All chefs included in the 2019 list, plus the new 2020 candidates will be invited to vote from 1 April for their peers; along with a selection of culinary professionals, photographers and foodies.

The Award recognises the chef’s talent, experience and personality… of which Dartnall has bucketloads! At her Restaurant Mosaic at The Orient in Elandsfontein, Pretoria, guests are treated to a personal explanation from Dartnall on the culinary journey they’re about to embark on… creating “an engaging, multi-sensory experience for each of our guests” and giving Dartnall a chance to meet, greet and hear feedback.

“I have met so many incredible people over the years and enjoyed wonderful friendships that have started over discussing dishes.”

In the final stage of the Best Chef Awards voting, social media followers will be able to vote for their favourite chef, awarding them with The Best Chef Fol-LOVERS Award. Dartnall said: “Of course, I would greatly appreciate your support and votes this year, as we look to once again fly the South African flag high on this international stage!”

There’s also a new award this year – the ‘Science’ Award for the most outstanding chef with regards to research, experimental techniques and transformation, said the Best Chef Awards.

In November 2019, Dartnall – who has won several Eat Out Awards – released a statement withdrawing from further participation in the annual South African awards in order to make place for others.
