Former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter will appear before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) on Wednesday, 26 April, to account for his statements about rampant corruption at the power utility.

DE RUYTER CLAIMS HE REPORTED CORRUPTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AS REQUIRED BY LAW

SCOPA asked de Ruyter to provide more information about a bombshell television interview in which he alleged evidence suggests Eskom was a feeding trough for the ANC. The former CEO also said a ‘high level’ politician was involved in corruption at the power utility.

According to Business Day, which said it had seen the presentation, De Ruyter insists he took all necessary steps to inform law enforcement of the theft and corruption at Eskom as is required by the Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities Act.

According to the publication, he does not mention the allegations in the interview – “ANC feeding trough” and “high level politician” – in his 4600-word written statement. There is no doubt that SCOPA members will ask about the allegations made in the interview despite the apparent omission.
