Johannesburg Water will interrupt supply to Newlands, Albertville, Montgomery Park, and Albertskroon on Thursday, 3 July, from 8:00 to 18:00 to carry out planned infrastructure upgrades.

The shutdown will allow technicians to connect a new pressure-reducing valve (PRV) system aimed at improving long-term water service in these areas.

“Customers may experience low pressure to no water,” said Johannesburg Water in a notice.

The utility added that the upgrade would result in “improved service delivery and continuity of water supply.”

Wider Regional Maintenance by Rand Water

Meanwhile, Rand Water has scheduled ongoing maintenance from Monday to Wednesday next week, impacting parts of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane.

Technicians will repair pipes at the Eikenhof system and replace a valve at the Zwartkopjes system, both vital parts of Gauteng’s water infrastructure.

Spokesperson Makenosi Maroo confirmed that the work will reduce pumping capacity at several systems during this time.

“The organisation is pleased to announce the significant progress achieved thus far, including the successful connection of the newly constructed B16 pipeline,” Maroo said.

The new pipeline will distribute water from Station 5A at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, part of a larger effort to expand supply and meet growing regional demand.

Efforts Aim to Stabilise Supply

Rand Water started this round of maintenance in May to build a more sustainable and efficient water supply. The current phase is scheduled to end by 18 July.

Although some residents may experience low pressure or intermittent supply, Johannesburg Water and Rand Water have assured the public that these upgrades will help reduce unplanned outages in the future.
