Gayton McKenzie puts deputy Kenny Kunene on special leave
PA leader Gayton McKenzie said placing his deputy Kenny Kunene on leave was the most difficult decision he has ever had to make.

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie placed his deputy, Kenny Kunene, on special leave after Kunene admitted to being at the home of murder-accused businessman Katiso Molefe during Molefe’s arrest on Monday.
Police arrested Molefe along with three suspected hitmen for allegedly orchestrating the murder of Amapiano artist and businessman Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka in November 2022.
KENNY KUNENE SET TO TAKE SPECIAL LEAVE
During multiple media interviews on Tuesday, 22 July, Kunene confirmed that he was at Molefe’s Sandton residence and explained that he was accompanying journalists working on an exclusive story [for his online newspaper] on Molefe.
“So, there was an opportunity to interview Mr Molefe, and someone that I know who knows him arranged the interview. I then had to take the journalists there,” he explained.
Kunene also emphasised that he has no relationship with Molefe as he had never been to his house before and doesn’t even have his contact details.
Following the interviews, PA leader Gayton McKenzie said there will be a probe against Kunene.
“I will disclose who will investigate him, lawyers of good character. While he’s being investigated I’m going to remove him from being an MMC.
“I’m also going to tell him to stand back from politics for one month until the investigation is done. That’s the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life. Acting against Kenny Kunene is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” he said.
DJ SUMBODY’S MURDER CASE POSTPONED TO 29 JULY
Police have linked the firearms used in the murders of DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards to at least 10 other major criminal cases.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that one of the guns was also used in the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart. She added that the same suspects in DJ Sumbody’s case were also implicated in Swart’s killing.
The four accused, Michael Pule Tau (55), Katiso Molefe (61), Tiego Floyd Mabusela (45), and Musa Kekana, appeared for the first time at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 22 July.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), they face charges of three counts of murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition.
The case was postponed to 29 July, to allow the state time to profile the accused, who has applied for bail.
