Malema calls on Zimbabweans to find employment in their own country

Malema urges Zimbabweans to work in their own country, emphasizing that South African citizens should be given priority due to high local unemployment.

Julius Malema, leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), urged Zimbabweans on Saturday to look for jobs in their own country instead of competing for work in South Africa.

He made the remarks during the Siyabonga rally in Seshego, Polokwane, Limpopo, where the EFF celebrated its July by-election victory.

This stance reverses his 2022 position, when he encouraged Zimbabweans to work in South Africa, highlighting it as their home.

Zimbabweans must seek jobs in their municipalities

Malema stressed that Zimbabweans should seek employment within their municipalities rather than taking jobs in South Africa.

“We are not saying Zimbabweans should not be given jobs, but they must get jobs from their own municipalities,” Malema said, pointing to Harare and other Zimbabwean cities as places where employment opportunities should be sought.

He described South Africa’s youth unemployment rate as alarming and unsustainable, adding that this is why the EFF focuses on policies that allocate municipal tenders and other local job opportunities to South African workers.

Shift Reflects Growing Frustration

The EFF now focuses on creating jobs for South African citizens, regardless of their language skills or connections.

Historically, Malema promoted African unity and urged Zimbabweans to take part in their national elections.

His recent remarks indicate a shift toward a more protectionist approach, emphasizing the rights and opportunities of South African workers.
