The City of Cape Town’s Coastal Management branch reopened the eastern parking area in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre to the public.

Although contractors are still completing minor works, residents and visitors can now use the facility for easier access to the beachfront.

This reopening forms part of a broader refurbishment of the Muizenberg beachfront, a multi-phase project that upgrades public amenities and replaces ageing seawalls.

Muizenberg beachfront upgrades on track

Alderman Eddie Andrews, the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, has happily welcomed the progress.

“We know how important the parking areas are at this very popular beachfront, and I’m delighted to let the public know that the eastern parking area in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre, on the beachside, is open for use.” Alderman Andrews said.

“Visitors will enjoy the newly paved area and improvements, though soft landscaping and final touches are still to follow.” he added.

Heavy rain delayed some work along the beachfront, but the project remains on track.

The first phase, which started in February 2025, focuses on upgrading an informal gravel lot into a formal parking area on the western side of Surfer’s Corner near the railway line, though that site remains closed.

The City also confirmed it will reopen the St James Walkway in time for the festive season, giving holidaymakers another attraction.
