Well-known Garden Route attraction temporarily closed – here’s the reason
Planning a trip to the Garden Route National Park? You won’t be able to visit one of its best-loved sights right now – here’s why.

SANParks has temporarily closed the iconic suspension bridge at Storms River Mouth Rest Camp in the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park for maintenance.
The closure runs from 1 to 15 September 2025 on weekdays (Monday to Friday).
The bridge will stay open on weekends, giving visitors the chance to enjoy one of South Africa’s most photographed attractions.
Storms River Suspension Bridge to undergo maintenance
SANParks confirmed that it closed the bridge for planned maintenance to preserve its safety, integrity, and longevity.
The Storms River suspension bridge, which stretches 77 metres across the mouth of the river and hangs just seven metres above the surging waters, is a bucket-list stop along the Garden Route.
Local and international travellers count its sweeping views of the gorge and dramatic coastline as a highlight.
What you can do while the bridge is closed
SANParks also said that visitors heading to the park during the temporary closure during the week can still enjoy a variety of activities, including:
- Waterfall Trail & Otter Trail (Day Access) – scenic hikes along rugged coastal terrain
- Loerie & Blue Duiker Trails – shorter routes perfect for families or casual walkers
- Kayak & Lilo Adventures – a guided experience into the river gorge
- Birdwatching & Photography – with abundant wildlife and panoramic vistas
- Restaurant & Gift Shop – for a relaxed break with a view of the ocean
The Storms River Suspension Bridge will reopen in full from 16 September 2025, just in time for National Parks Week.
