October 2025 petrol price forecast
South African drivers may face a slight rise in petrol prices in October, while diesel users could benefit from a small decrease.

South African motorists may face a slight petrol price increase in October, while diesel users could benefit from a small drop, thanks to stabilising oil prices and a stronger rand.
The latest Central Energy Fund (CEF) figures show that petrol prices are under-recovering, suggesting a possible rise of 8 to 16 cents per litre.
In contrast, diesel prices could decrease by 9 to 10 cents per litre, following a positive trend in global diesel markets.
Global oil and currency trends
The Brent Crude oil price has held steady at around $67 per barrel since early August, offering some relief to international fuel markets.
At the same time, the rand’s gradual strengthening is helping to cushion against sharp fuel price increases.
Petrol faces pressure from slightly higher international product prices, while diesel benefits from more favourable global pricing.
With only modest changes in global conditions, South African fuel prices may stabilise further ahead of the official adjustment in early October.
Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), effective Monday, 15 September.
FUEL | PRICE CHANGE |
Petrol 93 | increase of 8 cents |
Petrol 95 | increase of 16 cents |
Diesel 0.05% | decrease of 10 cents |
Diesel 0.005% | decrease of 9 cents |
Illuminating Paraffin | decrease of 14 cents |
If market conditions remain stable for the rest of the month—which is unlikely given fluctuating rand/dollar exchange rates and changing oil prices—petrol 93 octane motorists could see an 8-cent increase, while 95 octane users might face a 16-cent rise.
Diesel motorists could benefit from a 9 to 10-cent per litre decrease.
Lastly, illuminating paraffin is expected to fall by 14 cents.
