Ian Cameron MP will speak at the DA Abroad’s Third Wednesday event on Wednesday, 15 October.

For expats who care about what’s happening back home, staying connected to South Africa’s political developments can be challenging.

The DA Abroad network bridges that gap with regular events that bring key political figures directly to our global community.

An Important Voice on Crime and Justice

Ian Cameron MP serves as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police and has become one of South Africa’s most prominent advocates for police accountability and justice reform.

Before joining Parliament in 2024, he led Action Society, a civil rights organisation that championed victims of violent crime.

Cameron made headlines in August 2025 when he and two colleagues were attacked during an official oversight visit in Philippi, Cape Town.

Their vehicle was pelted with bricks, leaving him injured.

In self-defence, he fired his licensed firearm, wounding one of the attackers who was later arrested.

Despite this incident, he continues his work on stronger policing and protection for crime victims.
