Safe elections ahead: Tanzanian government promises safe and peaceful voting
As election day nears, security agencies assure voters of calm and safety, promising that the only crowds on 29 October will be those heading to vote.

As the nation prepares for the general election on 29 October 2025, Tanzania’s leadership and security agencies have stepped up big time to ensure every voter can cast their ballot safely.
The Tanzania Police Force (TPF) issued a clear message that the security situation remains stable and that no threat will impede the voting process.
From Dodoma to Zanzibar, the call is simple: show up, vote peacefully and stay safe.
What authorities are doing to guarantee peace
- The TPF, together with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF), has drawn up plans to protect polling stations from intimidation or disruptions.
- Deputy Commissioner of Police David Misime warned that those who break the law will face direct legal consequences.
- Schools of thought and security agencies have been working on cyber-monitoring to counter misinformation ahead of and during election day.
- President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as Commander-in-Chief, personally urged voters to turn out and assured that marches on voting day would only be those of citizens heading to polling stations.
- The African Union’s pre-election mission concluded the country is prepared for the vote though it noted political space is tightening.
What this means for you as a voter
Because of all this planning and announcement:
- You can feel more confident that your vote will count in a secure environment.
- You have a clearer guideline on what you should expect: no large unauthorised rallies near polling stations, just a smooth process.
- If you witness intimidation or see suspicious activity, the systems are in place to respond – authorities have publicly affirmed they will act.
Why election day matters – beyond the voting booth
A peaceful election builds trust. It helps national stability, promotes investor confidence and strengthens civic culture. Because Tanzania will pull off a stable, orderly election, it sends a strong signal that democracy and peace can go hand in hand.
As election day approaches, let’s all show up, vote responsibly and make this election a proud chapter in Tanzania’s story of progress.
