Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.
SAWS has issued yellow level 4, 2 and 1 warnings, with severe thunderstorms expected over parts of South Africa, bringing heavy downpours, flooding, hail, strong winds and lightning, while damaging winds are forecast along the coast between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay.
SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS
IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
A. Yellow Level 4 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours, flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, displacement of affected communities, danger to life (fast flowing streams / deep water), major travel disruptions (incl. route obstructions) and accidents, hail, strong gusty winds, and excessive lightning, are expected over the western and southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
B. Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours, localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail (or large hail in an open area), strong gusty winds, and lightning, are expected in places over Limpopo (except for the Limpopo Valley and the northern part of the Lowveld), southern parts of Free State (except along the northern border of Lesotho), as well as the northern and extreme eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.
C. Yellow Level 1 Warning: Damaging Wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay from the late morning until Friday afternoon (28/11/2025).
FIRE DANGER WARNINGS
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Nama Khoi, Khai-Ma and Hantam Karoo local municipalities in the Northern Cape.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces
Gauteng
Gauteng can expect fog in places in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog patches in the highveld, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme north-east. It will be hot in places in the Lowveld.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, partly cloudy at first, otherwise cloudy and warm with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the lowveld, where it will be hot in places.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thunder-showers but scattered in the east.
Free State
In Free State, partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.
Northern Cape
The day will start cloudy along the coast in the morning with fog in places, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but fine in the north-west. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the east, but scattered in the extreme south-east. It will be very hot places over the central and eastern interior. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly, but light and variable in the early morning.
Western Cape
Partly cloudy and hot to very hot in the northern and western parts, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected, except in the west with scattered rain showers along the south coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly north of Cape Columbine, otherwise fresh to strong south-easterly, reaching gale at times along the south-west coast.
The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High.
Eastern Cape
The Western half: Cloudy and cool with light rain along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly, becoming fresh to strong easterly in the evening.
The Eastern half: The day will start fine in the north-west, otherwise cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-easterly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Morning and evening fog patches over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in the extreme north- east. Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected in the west, otherwise scattered but isolated in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-easterly, becoming light to moderate southerly to south- westerly in the south from mid-morning, spreading northwards by late morning.
