Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.
SAWS has released yellow level 4, 2 and 1 alerts, warning of intense thunderstorms across parts of South Africa, with torrential rain, flooding, hail, powerful winds and lightning expected. In contrast, strong coastal winds are anticipated from Table Bay to Plettenberg Bay.
SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS
IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
A. Yellow Level 4: Severe Thunderstorms with heavy downpours, resulting in localised flooding of susceptible roads and low-level bridges and areas, damaging winds, as well as small hail and strong, damaging winds are expected over Limpopo, excluding the extreme north-east and Mpumalanga, except in the far south-west.
B. Yellow Level 2: Severe Thunderstorms with heavy downpours resulting in localised flooding of susceptible roads and low-level bridges and areas, and large amounts of small hail over Free State, south-western North West and central parts of Eastern Cape.
C. Yellow Level 1: Damaging winds resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea in the early morning between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay.
FIRE DANGER WARNINGS
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over most of the Northern Cape, the north-eastern parts of the Western Cape, the north-western parts of the Eastern Cape and North West.

Gauteng
Gauteng can expect cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is Moderate
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect cloudy and cool conditions, with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the Lowveld, where it will be warm in places.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, cloudy and cool to warm with widespread showers and thunder-showers.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but cloudy in the east, where it will be widespread.
Free State
In Free State, Partly cloudy and cool to warm with widespread showers and thundershowers, but cloudy in the east, where it will be widespread.
Northern Cape
The day will start fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated showers and thundershowers over the central parts but scattered in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly.
Western Cape
Cloudy and warm along the west and south coast in the morning and evening, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the extreme eastern parts. The wind along the coast will be strong to near gale easterly to south-easterly along the south coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh north-westerly to westerly. It will become fresh to strong south-westerly in the evening.
The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High.
Eastern Cape
The Western half: Very hot in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with widespread showers and thunder-showers. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly
The Eastern half: The day will start partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the north west. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to north-easterly, becoming fresh in the afternoon.
