Gavin Hunt is back in the market following his sacking by Durban City on Monday in what came as a shock.

He had been back in the top flight for just five months, and the other decision to sack him was unexpected.

Durban City, recently promoted from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, sit in eighth position after 14 games.

And this is decent for a team that’s still finding its feet against some tough teams in the Betway Premiership.

However, Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia has other plans, and rumour has it that Ernst Middendorp will form part of those plans.

Middendorp started the current season with Durban City as their Technical Director but left abruptly after three months.

GAVIN HUNT: WHERE TO FROM HERE?

Hunt is a well-travelled coach having worked at no fewer than nine clubs in the PSL.

But with almost every stable team having head coaches, it could be quite difficult for Hunt to get a club as soon as possible.

Teams that are struggling at the bottom half of the log appear to be patient with their coaches.

Of course, with the exception of Chippa United who have already made four coaching changes this season alone.

But Hunt is highly unlikely to even consider a possible offer from Chippa United after they previously fired him.

ARE KAIZER CHIEFS AN OPTION?

In the top half of the log, Kaizer Chiefs could still be an option as they are currently relying on interim co-coaches.

Consistency has proven to be a challenge for Chiefs this season despite sitting fourth on the log.

However, if Hunt was to return to Naturena for his second stint, the circumstances around his departure in 2021 would have to be looked into.

Another option, would be to wait until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Bafana Bafana will be on the lookout for Hugo Broos’ replacement.

After all, Hunt himself confirmed two years that he was once interviewed for the Bafana Bafana coaching job.
