Sundowns’ dominance over Orlando Pirates well-documented!
Orlando Pirates suffered their 28th league defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the PSL era on Wednesday. Hoodoo?
Mamelodi Sundowns have established dominance over Orlando Pirates in recent seasons, especially in the league.
And it was no different on Wednesday as the Brazilians beat the Buccaneers 2-1 to cut the lead the at the top to just three points with a game in hand.
Brayan Leon scored a first half brace for Sundowns before Patrick Maswanganyi pulled one back with a deflected goal early in the second half.
And that’s all Pirates could do as Sundowns moved to 35 points on the night, three behind their opponents.

SUNDOWNS CONTINUE DOMINANCE OVER ORLANDO PIRATES
Now, this was Mamelodi Sundowns’ 28th league victory over Pirates since the PSL era.
The two PSL giants have now met 60 times in the league, with Sundowns winning 28 and Pirates recording 15 wins while the other 17 matches ended in draws.
A total of 133 goals has been scored in those 60 matches – Sundowns scored 82 while Pirates have netted 51 times against the Tshwane giants.
Overall, Sundowns and Pirates have met 118 times since 1985 with the former winning 47, and the latter just 34.
Sundowns have scored 154 goals to Pirates’ 111 in those 118 meetings over the past 41 years.
Now, according to OptaJabu, no team has won more league games against Pirates than Sundowns (28) in the PSL era.
In fact, no team, except for Sundowns, has beaten Pirates on 20 or more occasions in the league since the inception of the PSL in 1996.

BUCS NOW SHIFTS FOCUS TO THE NEDBANK CUP
The Buccaneers will now shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup where they will host Casric Stars in the Last 16 on Saturday.
Kick-off at Orlando Amstel Arena is at 18:00.
Pirates are eager to reclaim the Nedbank Cup after losing it to Kaizer Chiefs towards the end of last season.
They had previously won the Nedbank Cup twice in a row with former coach Jose Riveiro.
