The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, which are expected to bring strong, damaging winds, hail, and excessive lightning.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces
Gauteng
Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm, but hot in the north. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms are expected.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect partly cloudy and warm, but hot in the Lowveld. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over the Highveld and escarpment areas.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers over the central and south-western parts.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy towards the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers.
Free State
In Free State, fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy towards afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers.
Northern Cape
The day will start cloudy with fog along the coast in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, except for the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly.
Western Cape
Morning fog along the west coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers over the north-eastern parts from the afternoon. It will be cloudy along the south coast in the morning and evening. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly along the west coast, otherwise moderate to fresh south- easterly to easterly.
The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High
Eastern Cape
The Western half: Fog in places in the morning, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be Light south-westerly, becoming light to moderate south-easterly.
The Eastern half: The day will start with morning fog in places, otherwise fine and warm, becoming cloudy with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the extreme northwest. The wind along the coast will be light south-westerly, becoming south-easterly by afternoon.
KwaZulu-Natal
Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly.
