Kaizer Chiefs host Orlando Pirates in the first Soweto Derby of the season on Saturday. What are the numbers saying?

Fireworks are always expected whenever Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates meet in every Soweto Derby.

And Saturday’s showdown will be no different, especially with both Chiefs and Pirates dubbed ‘title contenders’ this season.

Chiefs head into Saturday’s encounter at FNB Stadium sitting fourth on the log with 30 points from 16 league games.

The Buccaneers, on the other hand, are second on the log, tied on 38 points with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after 17 games.

SOWETO DERBY: H-2-H STATS BETWEEN CHIEFS AND PIRATES

This will be the 184th meeting Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates across all competitions since January 1970.

Of the previous 183 meetings, Chiefs have recorded 75 victories with Pirates winning 49 matches while 54 of those ended in draws.

Five Soweto Derby matches were abondoned over the years, including the 11 April 2001 clash which claimed 43 lives.
