Power utility Eskom confirmed in an X post on Wednesday afternoon that load shedding would be suspended from 05:00 on Thursday, 21 March until further notice.

Eskom added: “Due to the lower demand anticipated from tomorrow until the weekend, and an increase in available generation capacity, load shedding will be suspended from 05:00 on Thursday until further notice.

“The anticipated demand for this evening’s peak is 26 109MW, with unplanned outages at 14 335MW and planned maintenance at 6 073MW of generating capacity.

“A total of 3 850MW of generating capacity is planned to return to service by (next) Monday evening.”

Due to Thursday’s Human Rights Day public holiday, several business are likely to be closed leading to a lower demand.

Eskom pleaded with the public to switch off non-essential appliances to reduce the demand, especially between 17:00 and 21:00.

The South African website will keep the public abreast of the latest developments when changes occur.
