‘WE ARE UTTERLY DEVASTATED…’

After much speculation about a joint statement by the group, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer penned a sweet tribute message honouring their friend Matthew.

Shocked and devastated about their former co-star’s death, the group expressed that they were more than just castmates, they were family.

“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” they shared in their statement.

They continued: “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able, [but] for now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world”.

The message is then signed by Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer.

WHAT ARE ‘FRIENDS’ FOR?

Friends ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004 and followed the lives of six friends who were in their 20s living in New York City. The popular sitcom not only resulted in international fame for all six co-stars but also allowed the group to form a decades-long friendship outside of work.

Popularly known for his role as Chandler on hit TV series Friends, Perry died at his home in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, 28 October. According to TMZ the actor allegedly drowned in his jacuzzi.

After the TV show ended Matthew remained particularly close with Jennifer Aniston.

Not only was she the one who reached out frequently, as noted in his 2022 interview with Diane Sawyer but he also revealed in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing that Jennifer confronted him about his substance abuse when it became evident to his co-stars.

“She was the one that reached out the most. You know, I’m really grateful to her for that”, Perry told Diane Sawyer in a 2022 interview.
