Snoop Dogg has revealed the real reason behind his surprise announcement that he would be giving up smoke.

Snoop Dogg has come out and cleared the air around his recent announcement to give up “smoke”.

When the world heard that Snoop Dogg was giving up smoke, it sparked a global chain reaction. Snoop Dogg’s entire brand personality has been built on his affiliation with cannabis. Whether it be through his music, his clothing, his business ventures, his investments or through the herb itself, Snoop is arguably the first celebrity that comes to mind when people think about marijuana.

So to learn he was quitting after over four decades of smoking was a shock, to say the least.

SNOOP DOGG CLEARS THE AIR

The announcement sparked a lot of questions. Snoop himself said, “After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time,”  on his social media. Little did we know what “smoke” really meant.

Just four days after the initial announcement, the Drop It Like It’s Hot rapper released a new commercial. It turns out that the joke was on us all along as he announced that he was promoting a brand of smokeless indoor fireplaces!

DID HIS FAKE ANNOUNCEMENT HAVE AN IMPACT?

While some fans were definitely expecting it to all be some kind of joke, Snoop Dogg’s temporary announcement actually had an impact on some smokers.

A recent report by Lucy Adams of GoSmokeFree said, “Searches for ‘quit smoking’ have risen 492% worldwide in the last week, as well as ‘stop smoking weed’ rising 511%, as a result of Snoop Dogg issuing a statement of him giving up smoking. Snoop has encouraged fans to question how to give up smoking, with searches for ‘how to quit smoking’ exploding 308% worldwide in the past seven days.”

One wonders if this new revelation will impact those who were on the verge of quitting!
