Wizardry is something that is often associated with fictional characters like Harry Potter, but there actually exists a real-life wizardry school where you can learn the basics of magic, spells and potions – and it was partially inspired by the success of the magical Hogwarts castle.

The Grey School of Wizardry has subjects like spells and magical creatures as part of its curriculum, which any students can enrol in.

Classes teach students about herbs, crystals, and the stories behind creatures like unicorns.

Just like any other ‘school’ there is a faculty of teachers, and there are different subjects depending on what each student (or teacher) would like to focus on.

WHAT DOES THE WIZARDRY SCHOOL TEACH?

The Grey School of Wizardry teaches different subjects related to metaphysics and magical creatures, just like Hogwarts. Some of the classes that students can opt to take includes magical creatures and the history of magic – which takes you through different belief systems, and why they still exist today.

Classes are online, based around a traditional tuition system.

Traditional subjects like mathematics or science are left for other schools, while Grey School aims to be a way to learn more about the metaphysical world.

The school was started by Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, and is currently run by an appointed headmaster – yes, just like any other school.

ABOUT OBERON ZELL-RAVENHEART

Oberon (‘Timothy’) Zell-Ravenheart was born in 1942, and founded the interfaith movement called The Church of All Worlds. He calls himself a pagan and wizard, and is notable for his writings about the neopagan religious movement.

Musician Kesha has also featured Oberon on one of her albums in 2023.
