South African actress Aletta Bezuidenhout passes away at 76

South African actress Aletta Bezuidenhout, who was famously known for her roles in ‘Known Gods’ and ‘Die Sonkring’ has died.

Kenyan-born actress Aletta Bezuidenhout, who’s appeared in Die Sonkring and M-Net drama series Known Gods has passed away.

ALETTA BUZUIDENHOUT DEAD

PrimediaPlus reports that the South African actress Aletta Bezuidenhout died on Tuesday, 13 February in her sleep.

News of the actress’ death was confirmed by her son Hamilton Shamley in a post on Facebook. Shamley reveals that both her sons were with her at the time of her death.

“I will remember my mother as she lived, honest, energetic, highly intuitive and with her own special type of wisdom,” Shamley added.

Bezuidenhout was born on 17 May 1949 in Nairobi and worked for the former Transvaal Council of the Performing Arts (Truk).

She graduated with a BA in Drama from the University of Cape Town where she later became an actress and veteran thespian.

ACTRESS: TV ROLES

TVSA reports that Aletta Bezuidenhout was a director and playwright who has worked primarily in theatre, winning numerous awards over her career.

She was best known for her roles in Known Gods, Sam et Sally, Westgate, Die Sonkring, Lied van die Lappop, Charlie Jade, Orion and Vloeksteen.

She also appeared in Weerskant die Nag, Die Koningin en die Rebelle, Die dame met die kamelias, My Country My Hat, and many others.

The actress was also known for her roles in films such as Paljas and series like The Solar. Bezuidenhout also appeared in In My Country across Hollywood actor Samuel L Jackson.
