Wendy Williams’ family has spoken out for the first time since the TV host’s aphasia and dementia diagnoses a week ago.

American TV host Wendy Williams’ family has spoken out following the announcement of her dementia diagnosis.

WENDY WILLIAMS’ FAMILY BREAKS THEIR SILENCE

In an exclusive interview with People magazine the former Wendy Williams Show host’s family is speaking out for the first time about Wendy’s dementia diagnosis, including addressing Wendy’s personal life.

“We’ve all seen the images over the last few months and, really, few years of what has seemed like a spiral for my aunt,” says Williams’ niece Alex Finnie.

Alex continued to note how “shocking and heartbreaking” it was see to see her aunts condition unfold.

“It was shocking and heartbreaking to see her in this state”, Alex said of her aunt, Wendy Williams.

Her family also shared that they don’t know where she is, emphasising that they cannot call her themselves, but she can call them.

“The people who love her cannot see her,” says Wendy’s sister and Alex’s mom Wanda said.

DIAGNOSED WITH PROGRESSIVE APHASIA AND DEMENTIA

On Thursday, 22 February, Wendy Williams’ team announced a “very personal update” in regards to the former television host’s health. The update was also used to “correct inaccurate and hurtful rumors about her health”.

It was revealed that the former TV show host was diagnosed with aphasia and dementia.

“Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy’s ability to process information and many have speculated about Wendy’s condition, particularly when she began to lose words, act erratically at times, and have difficulty understanding financial transactions”, the press release notes.

The press release further notes that Wendy was diagnosed with “primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023.

“In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
