The Otter Protection Group in the Western Cape has called for international help in finding the culprits behind the death of two seals in Hout Bay Harbour.

The Group asked on Facebook: “Why do people do this to defenceless animals?”

They said that so far there has been no response from the Hout Bay Harbour Management or City of Cape Town.

“How do we find out who did this and how do we put a stop to it?” the group asks.

In their post, accompanied by heartbreaking photos of the seals, they identify the net as an anchovy net and say “someone killed these seals and weighted the net to sink it to hide the evidence of blatant animal cruelty”.

At this stage the Group says it’s unclear whether it was the boat in the photo, or another boat.

“Hopefully, someone in authority will find out.”

The Group asks: “Please share the images internationally!”
