Two convicted rapists escaped from the Ngqeleni Correctional Centre in the Eastern Cape on Freedom Day, 27 April. The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has launched a manhunt for the prisoners.

RAPISTS ESCAPED THROUGH SPORTS FIELD, INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

Siyabulela Khohliso, who was serving a 10-year service for rape, and Athini Nothi Mzingelwa, serving eight years for rape, slipped out of Ngqeleni Correctional Centre at approximately 15:30 on Thursday. They made their escape via the facility’s sports field.

“Additional resources have been deployed in support of the Emergency Support Team of Correctional Services working together with the South African Police Service to hunt down the two inmates,” said DCS.

Khohliso and Mzingelwa’s escape is under investigation by the department.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any sightings of the wanted offenders to the nearest police station.
