Watch below as young South African soprana Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, who lives in Europe, brings rapturous joy to The Whole World, singing it with the voice of an angel… and with a breathtaking South African style.

Audiences in the UK have been praising the SA expat all day after her brilliant performance with the National Youth Orchestra was screened on BBC iPlayer and BBC Four yesterday evening (Sunday 20 Aug) at 8pm.

The BBC called it “pure joy” as Cecilia sung her heart out in Errollyn Wallen’s “delightful new piece”, The Whole World. The performance took place during the BBC Proms 2023 at London’s famous Royal Albert Hall earlier this month.

Fans called her voice a “glorious gift” and a “blessing” and remarked on “what a wonderful joyous face to match a wonderful, beautiful, joyous voice”.

Cecilia, who lives in Switzerland, has just returned to the UK (to a concert in Scotland) after an “amazing week in South Africa” where she joined the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra on a short tour.

Writing on social media, she said it had been so special because “I was performing in my home country, full house and my family were in the audience, coming to stage and immediately seeing them really warmed my heart ❤️ Family over everything ❤️

The 29-year-old from Limpopo also expressed immense gratitude to her high school teacher from Lebowakgomo High, TUT lecturers, and her “dearest friends and classmates” who were also in attendance.

Rangwanasha first made South Africans abroad (and those back home) proud when she won the coveted Song Prize at the BBC’s Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2021.

Of her performance below, the UK’s Times newspaper said Rangwanasha “soared in Errollyn Wallen’s The Whole World, a beautiful new arrangement of He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands. It was utterly uplifting.”
