South African comedian Trevor Noah has made history in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), becoming the first comedian ever to sell out at the Coca Cola arena. The arena has the capacity to hold 17,000 people.

Trevor extended heartfelt gratitude to the sell-out crowd who had come from Dubai – a popular location for South African expats – and around the UAE.

Trevor, who is based in the USA now, said: “It’s hard to believe that over a decade ago I was performing to 400 people at my first show in Dubai and now finding out I was blessed to be the first comedian ever to sell out the Coca Cola arena! Thank you doesn’t always capture the full gratitude I have for the love you’ve showed me on this journey but please believe every time I get on stage I’ll do my utmost to make it one of the best shows you’ve ever seen. Shukran forever and I’ll see you next time!”

A fellow African in the USA, Malawian author Caroline Kautsire, pointed out: “Levels, Trevor, levels. You’ve worked hard. You have been patient and now look at how you’ve been blessed. Just look.Well done, sir. Shout out to my role model. Always.”

Trevor is currently on an international comedy tour, titled Off the Record.

Before the UAE, the former Daily Show presenter was in India for the very first time. He thanked audiences there for “sharing your rich history, your delicious cuisine and your fantastic arguments with me. Thank you to everyone who came out to the shows in Delhi and Mumbai because you made it truly unforgettable. Bangalore, our story isn’t done, I’ll be back and next time we’ll make sure it’s the best show ever.”

The Bangalore shows had to be cancelled due to technical issues (the sound system wasn’t working). One local quipped: “Bengaluru wanted to experience Trevor Noah, but Trevor Noah ended up experiencing Bengaluru.”

The tour is still heading to the USA where Trevor will perform around the country over the next few months, into 2024.
