NAMAQUALAND RAINFALL TO BRING EPIC FLOWER SEASON

The South African National Parks (SANParks) recently revealed that the Namaqua National Park received a whopping total of 198 96 mm of rain since January 2023 with promises of even more rain before the winter season is over.

This fantastic amount of rainfall signals a spectacular flower season at the Park this year.

“The currently excellent and continuous rainfall will also ensure a flower season that will not be soon forgotten. Minimum temperatures of at least 18 degrees are required for the flower crowns to open fully and to ensure an experience that will last a lifetime.” SANParks said in a statement.

Vistors will be able to view the flowers at different routes inside the Park including the Caracal route to Kookfontein, the coastal route in the direction of the Hondeklip Bay gate and the 4×4 Kurubees area.

The flowers are expected to peak during August and depending on weather, they will most likely last into September 2023.

SANParks has also said that the Richtersveld region will soon transform into a flower paradise due to the incredible rainfall over the months of May and June this year.

Due to the cold temperature and almost windless days, SANParks said that these ideal conditions, not seen in almost two decades, has led to rare conditions to cause mass germination of annual seeds.

They’ve claimed that if the current weather conditions were to persist, the annual flower displays might start from mid July, when stunning flower displays can be seen on the Koeroegabvlakte, Rooilepel plains, Domoroghpas, Helskloof as well in the Eksteenfontein to Lekkersing areas of the Richtersveld.
