Did you know that President Ramaphosa’s father, Samuel, was a retired policeman?

The South African Presidency has an interesting history, which goes way back to a man who was born in the later 1800’s. Most people don’t know this fact about Cyril Ramaphosa’s story!

Ramaphosa grew up in Soweto, Johannesburg, and rose to become one of the most prominent South African names.

The Presidency have taken a no nonsense approach to justice. Maybe it’s an attribute he’s learned from his father, who is said to have been an avid reader and kind man.

Ramaphosa grew up in Soweto, sharing a house with his siblings.

ABOUT SAMUEL RAMAPHOSA

There isn’t much information about Samuel Ramaphosa, father of the current and fifth South African president.

According to Geni.com, he was born in 1889 as Tshivhase Samuel Ramaphosa.

In Biblical terms, Samuel was a notable prophet and judge.

Ramaphosa’s father joined the South African Police (SAP), and married Erdmuth. One of their children, Cyril, was born in the early fifties.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was born in November, 1952.

He was born into political activism, a sign of the times. The Population Registration Act of 1950 was just two years before his birth.

Ramaphosa soon became secretary general of the ANC 1991, and was later elected into the Presidency as the fifth.
