In 2003, girl group Jamali took South Africa by storm. The three women band consisted of singers Jacqui Carpede, Mariechan Luiters, and Liesl Penniken. The group was formed on TV show Coca Cola Pop Stars and quickly went on to produce their first radio single Greatest Love which was followed by a self-title album with hits like Love Me For Me and Dalile.

After sixteen years and four studio albums, the trio announced their split and performed together for the last time at Huawei KDAY in 2019.

JAMALI: WHERE IS THE FORMER GIRL GROUP NOW?

In the early 2000s, Jamali was one of South Africa’s biggest musical acts.

The band consisted of three gorgeous young ladies Jacqui Carpede, Mariechan Luiters, and Liesl Penniken who were brought together by popular talent show Coca Cola Pop Stars.

The trio quickly gained popularity. For over a decade, they kept fans entertained and obsessed with a number of hit songs which many South Africans still remember word for word.

JAMALI STARS

In 2009, the group even won a SAMA for best english pop album and are three-time South African Music Awards nominees.

10 years later, in 2019, they announced that they were going their separate ways to pursue their own careers. So where are they now?

JACQUI CARPEDE

According to her Facebook page, Jacqui is still performing away as a solo artist.

In 2022, she was nominated for a Pop Artist of The Year Award at the Basadi Awards ceremony. She has also featured in a DSTV advert.

MARIECHAN LUITERS

Mariechan, just like Jacqui, is also still singing. Her latest song Thembalami features amapiano artist and Mnyike hitmaker, Tyler ICU.

Since 2019, she has also worked with Mobi Dixon and K.O. The stunner is reportedly also singing on jingles for advertisements.

LIESL PENNIKEN

Liesl appears to have taken an interest in politics and is a currently a big supporter of the Patriotic Alliance.

She has also worked on gospel music and appeared as a singing coach on Idols SA a few years back.
