Monique Clapp posted a photo of the 18-year-old to her facebook timeline a week ago, saying: “I would like to thank this guy Max, I went into pre-term labour on a train that got stuck at Retreat.

“This amazing person got me off the train and into an uber as fast as possible and took me home.

“You are a super star and your mother raised an amazing child. Thank you so much Max.”

Max told KFM: “My body just sensed that I needed to help her and get her off the train.”

Monique told local media she had gone into labour at just 33 weeks, and started crying on the train when it got stuck and she was in pain. Thanks to Max’s swift action, her fiance was able to get her to a hospital in time for medical staff to stop her labour. Her son’s lungs would’ve been underdeveloped if he’d been born at that stage. “If it wasn’t for Max I would have had a premature baby so I have him to thank.”

Monique says when her son is born, she will be introducing him to her “knight in shining armour”. She also said that Max insisted on paying for the uber himself, despite her fiance offering to pay him back.

Max’s school, Wynberg Boys’ High, posted a photo of Max at Sunday’s U19 rugby practice and said “#NurseMax we’re seriously proud of you!”

The school said it applauded Max for his actions in coming to the aid of a stranger in distress and called him “a model Wynberg Gentleman”.

One facebook user from Fish Hoek said: “Spread the word guys… there are still gentlemen and heroes among us!!”
