When 12-year-old singer Niamh Beatrix Smith had to leave South Africa behind to move to Ireland four years ago, she found common ground in music – a sentiment made clear by her growing success abroad since the big move.

Now the rising Wicklow star is handing the mic to Make-a-Wish Ireland with the launch of her new fundraising campaign: ‘Shine-from-Within’.

“I’m very happy to be able to use what I love, to shine a light on the things that are important to me: family, community, music and children whose wishes carry a bit of extra stardust,” she recently posted on her Instagram page @niamhbeatrix.

The premise of the fundraiser is simple: if you like one of Niamh’s performances or songs, live or digital, she asks that you consider making a donation to Make-a-Wish Ireland via www.idonate.ie/shinefromwithin

“Music has the power to speak to anyone, anywhere,” says Conor Reynolds, a Marketing Executive at Make-a-Wish Ireland. “It is an integral part of society and we are very happy that Niamh is using her talent to put the spotlight on Make-a-Wish Ireland.”

Niamh also hopes to get closer to her target of €1,000 for the charity with the release of her first covers this summer – the first being, Klein Tambotieboom, an Afrikaans song originally by the hugely popular South African rock band, Die Heuwels Fantasties (The Hills Fantastic), who not only gave her permission to record the song, but also sent her a personal message of support!

In the message Pierre Greeff, one of the lead singers, mentions that they look forward to meeting the youngster when they perform at the Grand Social in Dublin on 31 August 2023.

Secretive about the second cover she is working on, Niamh only mentioned that she was hoping to sing something by an Irish artist – perhaps in Irish.

With a couple of live performances booked over the summer, she plans to encourage young and old to be part of a community that makes wishes come true for seriously ill children.
