A subcontractor at the Eskom Lethabo Power Station in the Free State was shot dead in the parking lot by an unknown gunman.

According to reports, an Eskom subcontractor was shot dead in the parking lot of Lethabo Power Station in Sasolburg, Free State. The incident took place on Sunday evening.

VICTIM GUNNED DOWN AT ESKOM, POLICE LAUNCH INVESTIGATION

TimesLive reported that the victim, Siyabulela Nkwelo, was headed to his car after work when he was gunned down.

Free State South African Police Service (SAPS) Sergeant Josephine Rani said the 48-year-old’s co-workers heard a volley of gunshots and then saw an unknown man jump into a white VW Polo with Mpumalanga licence plates.

The vehicle had four male occupants when it drove off.

PUBLIC URGED TO COME FORWARD

“The police received a complaint of the shooting incident and on arrival found Nkwelo lying on the ground face down. Emergency services personnel declared him dead. He was a subcontractor at the power station,” said the police spokesperson.

Members of the public with information about the shooting at Eskom are encouraged to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Tauru Majoe, at 071-094-0570.
