Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Specialized Task Team (STT) recovered a firearm linked to the murder of 17 victims in Orange Farm, south of Gauteng.

CONVICTED CRIMINAL CONFESSES ABOUT THE WANTED FIREARM

On 04 July 2023, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Specialized Task Team (STT) Officers together with other law enforcers, recovered a firearm and ammunition in Orange Farm, Johannesburg, following the pointing out by the 44-year-old male convicted perpetrator.

The Germiston South African Police Services’ Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), requested back-up from STT Officers, as the perpetrator, convicted for the murder of a police officer in Thokoza and a further sixteen (16) other murder cases where he was also involved, was willing to point out where the firearm that was used in the commission of the crime was located.

According to EMPD, the suspect was booked out from Germiston cells and took the law enforcers to a residence on Drieziek Extension 3 in Orange Farm, where he pointed out a black 9mm Grissan with defaced serial numbers along with fifteen (15) live rounds.

“The law enforcers will conduct further investigation, to secure the convictions for the sixteen (16) other murder cases, where the suspect is involved. The convicted perpetrator will be appearing at the Palm Ridge and Heidelberg Magistrates Courts soon,” EMPD reported.

OFFICER HLATSHWAYO MURDER PLOT

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old suspect was arrested on 23 June 2023 by Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation in connection with the murder of Officer Hlatshwayo who was stationed at Mahamba border posts.

It was reported that the off-duty officer was shot at his home in Piet Retief in February 2022. He managed to call his friend who then rushed him to the local hospital where he was later transferred to Trichardt Medi-Clinic for further medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
