A legendary Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper has weighed in on whether or not Arthur Zwane is the reason the team underperformed this past season.

Zwane was appointed as head coach in May 2022 to try and bring back the old glory days at Chiefs but it wasn’t to be.

Now, a section of Amakhosi fans want Zwane gone and they are calling for the management to hire a more experienced coach to steer the ship.

However, Brian Baloyi, who played with Zwane at Chiefs for many years, doesn’t think his former teammate is the problem.

Baloyi believes Chiefs will still not improve even if Zwane is fired and a new coach is brought in, saying the club should invest in signing quality players.

In his own words, Baloyi said more than 50 percent of the current squad doesn’t deserve to be playing for the Soweto giants.

And for that reason, he wants the management to do something about if Chiefs are to challenge both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

“You can fire coach Arthur and bring in another coach, but there is nothing that coach is going to do with the type of players Chiefs have right now,” Baloyi told Newzroom Afrika.

“I think a lot of times, we shy away from telling the truth. More than 50 percent of that squad is not Kaizer Chiefs material.”

“If Chiefs really want to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates, they need to dig deep, go look and find quality players,” added Baloyi.

KAIZER CHIEFS AND STELLIES TO DO TRANSFER BUSINESS AGAIN?

Kaizer Chiefs may have failed in their attempt to sign Junior Mendieta from Stellenbosch FC but two teams appear likely to continue doing business.

Mendieta was linked with a possible move to Chiefs but the Stellies star is reported to be on his way to Mamelodi Sundowns who offered him a three-year deal.

Now, having previously been involved in transfer dealings with Chiefs signing both Zitha Kwinika and Ashley du Preez from Stellies, another deal is reportedly on the cards.

According to a report by Soccer Laduma, Stellenbosch have expressed interest in forgotten Chiefs left wing-back Happy Mashiane.

Mashiane has lost his place in the Chiefs team to the likes of Sifiso Hlanti and Reeve Frosler, and chances of him playing regularly look very slim at this point.

And Stellies could use his services in the meantime with Chiefs reportedly willing to let Mashiane leave on a season-long loan deal.
