Police officer accused of murdering pregnant ex-wife set to appear back in court

A police officer stationed at Rapid Rail Unit in Silverton, Jonnas Tebogo Mpete 39, has abandoned his bail application at the Brits Magistrates’ Court.

PREMEDITATED MURDER OF EX-WIFE

He is facing a charge of premeditated murder for allegedly killing his pregnant ex-wife, Ntombizodwa Khumalo, 35.

It is alleged that on 05 April 2023, the accused went to Brits Hospital, where the ex-wife worked as a switchboard operator at the entrance of the hospital.

When he arrived, it is alleged that he fired several shots at the deceased and after went to hand himself over at the Brits Police station.

It is also alleged that in 2021, the deceased had obtained a protection order against the accused.

The matter was postponed to 27 July 2023, for further investigations.

POLICE OFFICER KILLS WIFE AND HER SIBLINGS

In a similar case, a Hazyview South African Police Services (SAPS) officer has allegedly killed his wife and her two brothers after a heated argument.

The two siblings had a conversation trying to assist the police officer and his wife to resolve their marital issues.

The suspect has handed himself in at the Hazyview Police Station, where he remains in custody.

It is alleged that the policeman stormed out of the family meeting and returned with a firearm.

“The police officer was not happy with some of the responses and he stormed out of the meeting and went to his room, only to come back with a gun. He shot his wife and the two men. They were certified dead on the scene,” said the family member.
