MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COACH RHULANI MOKWENA WISHES TO CONTINUE WORKING INTO PRE-SEASON

According to the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season, his team’s underachievement to lift only one from a possible four major trophies, inspires him to return to the training pitch.

“We are disappointed that we only won the league. Of course, we also won the Carling Cup.

“And we got to the semi-finals of all the other competitions, but even if we had won everything, we would still feel that we could have done better. We have a feeling that we can do better next year,” Mokwena said via FARPost.

“The players have been saying I should allow them to go on holiday. But if it were me, we could have already been on a training pitch,” Mokwena added.

“There is a fire that says we should do more, and there is a pain that is pushing me to a space that we want to be back as soon as possible.

“We want to be back on the pitch soon because we want to play better and win better next season.

“But its also important to put things into perspective. What we have done under the circumstances and what playing the way we have been playing and being so offensive,” the Sundowns tactician concluded.

SEARCH FOR BETTER PLAYERS

Meanwhile, the former Orlando Pirates coach has confirmed that Sundowns will be in the market to sign up new talent, but it will not be easy…

“For sure, like any big club [there will be players leaving and signed], we have a responsibility to improve,” Mokwena said, as quoted by iDiskiTimes’ Lorenz Kohler.

“The first way to improve and the most important way, is more, more work – more training, more video [analysis], more development, more ideas, more advancement.

“We have to work a lot harder, give a little bit more and then try to bring in better players, which is very difficult because of the level [of players] we have, try to raise the standard and the energy in the club,” Mokwena added.

“And the way to bring in new energy is to bring in new players with higher levels of motivation so that they stimulate that energy amongst the squad, so we’ve had that discussion already, it’s not going to be big changes or too many.

“But of course we will improve the squad during the window,” the Sundowns tactician added.
