Amashova Race: Durban ROAD CLOSURES on Sunday

One day away until South Africa’s oldest ‘classic’ cycling race, the Amashova Durban Classic, gets underway on Sunday 22 October.

The eThekwini Municipality, has urged residents to take note of the road closures for all day and plan their day accordingly.

WHAT IS AMASHOVA CLASSIC

The annual 106km race takes place between KwaZulu-Natal’s capital Pietermaritzburg and Durban. For most of the race, it follows the same route as the Comrades Marathon.

The race was the brainchild of veteran Springbok cyclist Dave Wiseman and his friend Tony McMillan, who had idea of staging a cycle race on the same rout as the ultimate human race.

The first race was held in 1986.

WHICH ROADS WILL BE CLOSED

Major road closures to be expected include:

  • Old Main Road in Hillcrest (04:45-13:30)
  • M13 Hillcrest to M13 Westville westbound lanes will be closed (04:00 to 14:30)
  • M13 Westville to M13 on 45th Cutting in the westbound lane (04:00 to 14:30)
  • N3 outbound to Monty Naicker Street AKA Pine Street (04:00 to 15:00)
  • Monty Naicker Street (04:00 to 15:00)
  • Masabalala Yengwa Ave (NMR Ave), southbound lane (04:00 to 16:00)
