Bafana Bafana have a decent record against the Atlas Lions although they haven’t won against them in 21 years.

Bafana Bafana have a golden opportunity to test themselves when they face Morocco in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 17 June.

Both teams have already qualified for the continental tournament to be held in Côte d’Ivoire from 13 January to 11 February 2024.

SA now have a chance to test themselves against the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists who are expected to bring their top players to South Africa.

Those players include Hakim Ziyech, Achraf Hakimi, Sofyan Amrabat, Yassine Bounou and Youssef En-Nesyri.

A WIN FOR BAFANA WILL BRING THEM CONFIDENCE

Hugo Broos’ side is set to clash with the Atlas Lions for the ninth time since the two teams first played in 1998.

Bafana Bafana and Morocco have claimed two victories each while four other games ended in a draw.

Morocco come into this clash on the back of two straight wins over Bafana Bafana, including the 2-1 victory on the home soil last year at the beginning of the current qualifying campaign.

Before that, Mbark Boussoufa scored a 90th-minute winner to give the Atlas Lions a 1-0 win over Bafana Bafana at the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

The last time Bafana Bafana won a game against Morocco was back at the 2002 AFCON in Mali.

Goals from Sibusiso Zuma, Thabi Mngomeni and Siyabonga Nomvethe were enough to give South Africa a 3-1 win.

Although the tickets are not selling like hotcakes, the crowd is expected to at least fill half of the calabash which would delight Hugo Broos and his troops.
