A South African author named Nicole Barlow has issued a formal apology to her followers and the family of struggle hero Chris Hani. This after she took to Twitter and commented that local politician Gwede Mantashe should have been assassinated like Chris Hani was in 1993.

While she initially said that the comments come from a place of anger because of the treatment of black people in South Africa under the current administration, she has now said sorry for all of her comments.

NICOLE BARLOW TRIES TO SUBDUE CHRIS HANI COMMENT BACKLASH WITH AN APOLOGY

Environmental campaigner and author Nicole Barlow found herself in the middle of a social media storm this week after posting a distasteful tweet about minerals and energy minister Gwede Mantashe.

According to Barlow who has since apologised for the tweet, Gwede Mantashe should have been assassinated in the same manner anti-apartheid political activist Chris Hani was back in 1993.

“We missed an opportunity to do a Chris Hani on him,” she wrote in the tweet on Saturday 24 June.

In an attempt to explain herself, she then went on to tweet that she had written the tweet out of disappointment in the ANC and how they have managed the country over the years.

“I’m going to do a Jeremy Clarkson – mea culpa…., I agree that it’s grossly hypocritical to criticise Julius Malema for publicly inciting violence and promoting the killing of white farmers (Boers) only for me to turn around and do it as well.

“One should never fall into the trap of engaging with one’s enemy through cheap point scoring and insults. I have spent 20 years fighting the ANC and the devastating impact their corruption has had on our environment, and for a split second, I allowed my jaded perspective of them to cloud my judgement, and that was wrong…” she wrote.

THE ‘REJECTED’ APOLOGY

This didn’t appear to work for Barlow who was still facing angry comments from South African social media users who called on her arrest.

“For any pain and suffering this has caused you and your family, I am deeply sorry. That I referenced the tragedy of your husband’s murder in relation to someone who has brought that very pain upon our nation was a grave mistake.” Barlow said.

Meanwhile, TimesLive reports that Barlow is currently facing an investigation by the SA Human Rights Commission.
