Blue Drop Report: Here are the municipalities with clean water

This week the Blue Drop Report unveiled the municipalities excelling in ensuring pristine quality, producing the ‘cleanest water.’

This week, the Blue Drop Report revealed progress assessments, naming the top municipalities for clean water. The report assessed 958 water systems across 144 authorities.

The assessment examined infrastructure, maintenance, operation, treatment, and staff expertise. In 2014, 44 water systems got Blue Drop certifications, but in 2023, only 26 did, signaling a decline.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released the Blue Drop Report on Tuesday, 5 December.

THESE ARE THE MUNICIPALITIES WITH CLEAN WATER

Securing the top spot in the best-performing Water Services Institution category is the Overstrand local municipality, followed by the City of Cape Town and the City of Johannesburg.

In the Blue Drop Best Performing Water Supply System category, Buffelsrivier, Greater Gansbaai, Greater Hermanus, Kleinmond, Pearly Beach, and Stanford local municipalities jointly claimed the first position.

The Overstrand local municipality secured the second spot, while the iLembe district municipality clinched the third position, according to Times Live.

Gauteng showcased three municipalities receiving National Blue Drop Certification, with Rand Water’s Meyerton water supply system in Midvaal local municipality leading the way.

Similarly, the Ekurhuleni and Greater Johannesburg water supply systems provided by Rand Water received well-deserved certifications.

Three Gauteng municipalities earned National Blue Drop Certification. Leading the pack is Rand Water’s Meyerton system in Midvaal. Ekurhuleni and Greater Johannesburg systems also secured certifications.
