E-hailing company Bolt expressed concern and sympathy after the alleged kidnapping of YouTuber Simthande Myeza, who was reportedly abducted in Durban while riding in a Bolt vehicle.

Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior General Manager of Bolt South Africa, called the incident deeply disturbing. He said Bolt is treating the matter with the highest level of seriousness and will fully cooperate with the authorities investigating the case.

“Our safety team has reached out to the individual to gather more information and better understand what occurred. While we are still in the process of verifying the trip information, we remain committed to engaging all parties to ensure the matter is thoroughly addressed,” said Motsoeneng.

SAFETY REMAINS BOLT’S TOP PRIORITY

The e-hailing company says it prioritises safety above all else. Motsoeneng stated that Bolt remains firmly committed to making every ride a safe and reliable experience.

“We will continue to work closely with the relevant law enforcement authorities and act decisively as soon as we have the information needed to do so,” added Motsoeneng.

INVESTIGATIONS INTO KIDNAPPING CONTINUE

Myeza’s family said the online comedian is safe and currently recovering. The family added that they are allowing the law to take its course. KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Umbilo police are investigating a case of kidnapping.

In a statement, the family said the Bolt driver veered off the correct route and stopped the car. Then, two individuals held Myeza at gunpoint. According to the family, they took him to an unknown location, emptied his bank account, and later demanded a ransom from his family and friends. They also alleged that the kidnappers stripped Myeza, filmed and photographed him, and forced him to perform degrading acts.
