A suspect linked to a robbery was arrested by Table Mountain National Park Rangers. The suspect arrested on Lion’s Head.

A suspect was arrested on the world’s most hiked mountain, Lion’s Head, on Sunday, 21 January in connection with a robbery that took place on the tourist hotspot.

Cape Town law enforcement officials and Table Mountain National Park Rangers were at the scene.

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER NUMEROUS INCIDENTS ON LION’S HEAD AND SIGNAL HILL

There have been several reports of muggers targeting hikers and walkers on Lion’s Head and Signal Hill over the holiday period. In December, two hikers were robbed at gunpoint at around 4:45 am, according to IOL.

The latest incident that took place on Sunday, 21 January saw a woman robbed of her belongings while hiking on Lion’s Head.

SANPARKS SAID THE VICTIM OPENED A CASE AGAINST THE ALLEGED PERPETRATOR

SanParks said: “Table Mountain National Park Rangers apprehended a suspect linked to a robbery incident at Lions Head on Sunday, 21 January 2024.

This comes after a female park user was robbed of her belongings while hiking at Lions Head. The joint operation between SANParks Rangers, City of Cape Town Metro Police, and Law Enforcement officers located the suspect, and they were able to retrieve back all the belongings of the victim. The suspect was arrested, and the victim has opened a case with the South African Police Services.

Table Mountain National Park Manager – Ms. Megan Taplin said, “Thank you to the TMNP rangers, the City of Cape Town Metro Police, and Law Enforcement officers, for this joint operation leading to the arrest of a suspect. Our teams will continue to monitor this area and ensure the safety of the park users. Well done to all involved and keep up the exceptional work!”
