Buffalo City hosts the Ministerial Sectoral Imbizo

Buffalo City looks at the recovery of arts, culture and heritage and alignment programs to help sustain the sector.

The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture (Desrac) Zizi Kodwa accompanied by Eastern Cape Desrac MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe and Buffalo City Metro Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Princess Faku hosted the Ministerial Sectorial Imbizo on Saturday, 14 October.

THE PURPOSE OF THE EVENT IN EASTERN CAPE

The purpose of the Imbizo, held at the Miriam Makeba Center in East London, was to look at the recovery of arts, culture and heritage and alignment programs to help sustain the sector within the province.

It was also aimed at promoting and increasing dialogue between the people and the government without mediation.

Giving her welcoming remarks, Buffalo City Metropolitan Executive Mayor Councillor Princess Faku said, “We are deeply grateful that you have chosen Buffalo City Metropolitan to host the Ministerial Imbizo on Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, and we are excited to have you in the heart of the Eastern Cape, right here in Buffalo City Metro.”

She also highlighted that the gathering serves as a crucial platform for engaging in meaningful conversations with all the key stakeholders in the sector. “We are here to solicit your invaluable inputs and insights, as we collectively work towards improving our government’s development plans,” she added.

“The Ministerial Imbizo is not merely a ceremonial event; it is a vital forum where we come together to exchange ideas, connect government with citizens, and harness the collective wisdom of those deeply involved in the fields of sport, recreation, arts, and culture,” Buffalo City Mayor said.

MINISTERIAL IMBIZO ACHIEVEMENT GOALS

“Let us unite our efforts to position the Eastern Cape as a true powerhouse in the realms of Sport, Recreation, Arts, Culture, and Heritage. Together, we can achieve remarkable feats, enriching the lives of our people through the magic of sports, the wonder of the arts, and the profound beauty of our culture and heritage,” said the Mayor as she was concluding her warm welcome.

During the Sectoral Imbizo, artists and heritage practitioners were given an opportunity to engage in a question and answer session with the Mayor, Minister and the MEC on matters that affects the sector in the province.
