Eldorado Park clinic CLOSED due to threats to nursing staff
It is reported that a JMPD security on duty was attacked and assaulted by thieves at the clinic in Eldorado Park.
A clinic in Ext 2 in Eldorado Park, Region G remains closed since 3 October 2023 due to an attack to the security guard by thieves and threats to nursing staff.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CLINIC STAFF IN ELDORADO PARK
It is reported that on 1 October 2023 at approximately 16h20, a JMPD security on duty was attacked and assaulted by thieves who had gained access to the premises by cutting the perimeter fence.

INCIDENT REPORTED TO CITY OF JOBURG
According to City of Joburg, the incident and theft were reported to the police including previous incidents of bodily threat and racial slurs to staff by community members.
On 2 October 2023, a meeting was held with senior health officials and staff who expressed their concerns about their safety especially in the absence of a security guard. The ward Councillor was unfortunately not available during this time. It was decided to temporarily close the clinic on 3 October 2023 and inform the ward Councillor and the community by putting up notices of the closure.

“Patients have been redirected to Extensions Eight and Nine Clinics, Freedom Park and Lenasia. It is regrettable that patients have to now travel further for medical attention. As much as patient health care is critical, it is also important that clinic staff feels safe in their work environment,” City of Joburg cautioned.

CLINIC REMAINS CLOSED UNTIL NEXT MEETING
On 10 October 2023, a meeting was held with senior health managers, SAPS, JMPD, ward Councillor and community members to discuss and resolve issues to facilitate the reopening of the clinic as soon as possible. City of Joburg reports that it was decided that another meeting should be held to include participation by local NGOs, pastors forum, social development and other community stakeholders for a broader discussion in relations to safety, theft and vandalism of clinics.
