On Friday, 16 June, award-winning author Jackie Phamotse took to Twitter to put Food Lover’s Market on blast for selling old food which prompted her Twitter followers and other Tweeps to chime in and share their own frustration with the food outlet.

JACKIE PHAMOTSE CALLS OUT FOOD LOVER’S MARKET

After discovering she had purchased ‘rotten chicken and old fruit’ from Food Lover’s Market, Jackie Phamotse went back to the store to complain. She shared a video on Twitter where several staff members can be seen attending to her problem. In a post, she explained that they had been going through every item she purchased which caused her a great inconvenience.

In her Twitter rant, Phamotse then decided to escalate the issue and tagged the Food Lover’s Market and the South African Department of Health’s Twitter pages and demanded that they have a look into the matter. On her timelines, she wrote

“Just arrived at FLM, Nicolway. They are literally checking every item without even considering the inconvenience this caused me. Had to produce my bank statement! I’m sick of this place @FoodLoversMkt.”

According to TimesLIVE, CEO Travis Coppin has since responded to Phamotse complaints and said they had arranged for her goods to be returned and for her to receive a refund.

“We immediately looked at our internal health and safety audits and could determine that we achieved a rating of 95 % and 98% in the Nicolway store. As we always go the extra mile to delight our customers, we also offered her a butchery hamper which she accepted,” Coppin was quoted as saying.

Phamotse was said to have received a voucher worth R500.

“I stopped buying fruit and veg there because it was either going off or went off before we could finish it,” @lynnemaraisart said.

“The inconvenience is the worst of having to drive back and return the items,” @umXhosaEL replied.

“I have experienced the same. Had to return meat and fresh fruit numerous times. They tend to repurpose expired food by changing the expiry date. It’s a health hazard,” @EdwinaEdwinach commented.
