Foreign national arrested for impersonating a police officer

A 38-year-old foreign national has been arrested by the Berea police for impersonating an officer, drug possession, and engaging in fraudulent activities.

Berea police in KwaZulu-Natal apprehended a 38-year-old foreign national on Vause Road in Musgrave on Saturday, accusing him of impersonating a police officer, possessing narcotics, and committing fraud.

During a routine crime prevention operation, law enforcement officials searched the suspect. They discovered rock cocaine and a counterfeit police identification card in his possession. Subsequently, a search at his residence on Okleigh Drive yielded a trove of incriminating evidence.

IMPERSONATING SCHEME BUSTED BY POLICE OFFICERS

Authorities seized fraudulent fishing permits, additional fake police identification cards, counterfeit refugee asylum work permits, and a police date stamp.

Moreover, they discovered 15 rounds of ammunition. Alongside a computer and related paraphernalia suspected to have been utilised in the production of fraudulent documents.

“A computer and other equipment, believed to have been used in the production of fraudulent documents were seized for further investigations,” said the South African Police Service in a statement statement.

The suspect will make a court appearance today, facing charges related to the aforementioned offences.
