Following responding to a 911 call made on Sunday, 23 July, 45-year-old Tafari Campbell, a personal chef to former United States president Barack Obama, has been confirmed dead after he was found near the Obamas’ Massachusetts home in what is said to be a paddle boarding accident, BBC reported.

CHEF TAFARI CAMPBELL DIES NEAR BARACK OBAMA’S HOME

Tafari Campbell worked for the Obamas in the White House and later went on to stay on with them after the former president left office in 2016, the publication reported. After Campbell’s disappearance on Sunday, the Obamas were said to have released a statement.

“Tafari was a beloved part of our family. When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House – creative and passionate about food… We got to know him as a warm, fun, extraordinarily kind person who made all of our lives a little brighter,” the Obamas were quoted as saying in the statement.

Campbell’s body was recovered from the town’s Great Pond, The Independent reported. Massachusetts State Police reportedly said that the former president and his wife, Michelle were not at home when the chef died.

A search for Tafari Campbell started at 19:45 and his body was discovered by divers shortly before 10:00 the following day, People reported.

“MSP Underwater Recovery Unit divers made the recovery after the victim’s body was located by Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers deploying side-scan sonar from a boat approximately 100 feet from shore at a depth of about eight feet,” the department was quoted as saying.

Police reportedly said that they responded to a 911 call for a male who never resurfaced again after he was said to have appeared to struggle right before submerging underwater.
