It’s not good news for embattled motorists, with a larger-than-expected August fuel prices increase taking effect at midnight tonight on Wednesday 2 August 2023.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has released the official August fuel price increase: 37 cents per litre for petrol, while there is a 71/72 cents per litre for diesel.
This means motorists will be forking out R22.83 per litre for the top grade of petrol and R20.21 for 50 ppm diesel inland. And at the coast, it will cost you R22.11 per litre for top-grade petrol and R19.81 for 50 ppm diesel.

FUEL PRICE INDICATORS
As you can see, petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin all increased during the period. The Rand appreciated against the US Dollar, with the exchange rate – from 30 June 2023 to 27 July 2023 – moving to 18.2 from 18.6 versus a month ago.

This led to a lower contribution on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 27.46 c/l, 26.64 c/l and 27.11 c/l respectively.
