INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY: AUTHORITIES PUZZLED OVER DISCOVERY OF DECEASED LEARNER AT HÖERSKOOL GARSFONTEIN DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

The Gauteng Education Department said the “shocking discovery” was made at Höerskool Garsfontein. The body was identified as a learner of the school.

Inland schools are currently closed for the June holidays, and will reopen for term three on 18 July.

“What is unclear at this stage is how the dead body of the girl learner landed in the school, especially since schools are on recess and there are no learners at school.

“We call on police to urgently apprehend the perpetrators. We also extend our sincerest condolences to the family and the school community at large,” said provincial education MEC Matome Chiloane.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) are investigating the matter at the scene. The learner’s family is also at the school on Tuesday and will receive psycho-social support from the education department’s support team.

The Gauteng Education MEC is expected to visit the school on Tuesday afternoon.
